There are many versions of TV game shows, but the Trivia Game Show is by far the most popular. Shows like Jeopardy and who wants to be a millionaire are among the most popular game shows to have ever aired, and their formats have been acquired by production houses all over the world and translated to several languages.
There are other successful formats for game shows except the trivia game show, for example – the deal or no deal game, which doesn’t require much knowledge of anything, just some gambler's wits, or the wheel of fortune game, which is more of a puzzle then a trivia quiz, but these seem to have made less of an impact then the general knowledge trivia game shows.
Many of the best trivia game show formats come from abroad, like the weakest link game which comes from the UK, or ABCs upcoming trivia game show Duel, which comes from France and has just recently completed a couple of rounds of game show auditions to pick the most interesting contestants that also have a wide enough general knowledge to be able to stand their grounds in a match of wits.
Even Holland has their share of trivia game show success with the well known format of 1 vs. 100 game. But the good old US of A is still the leading consumer of trivia game shows in the world and is more responsible for the success of the format than any other nation.
